Characteristics

Terrestrial fern. Rhizome short-creeping, scaly, the scales lanceolate with dark brown cell walls. Stipe dark brown, often becoming green above near lamina, 15–24 cm long, c. 6 mm diam., densely covered with small scales with dark brown cell walls, especially towards base that are often rubbed off. Lamina 1-pinnate, ovate to elliptic, with acute apices, 10–60 cm long, 5–25 cm wide, light to bright lime green, lustrous, with scattered small dark brown scales below. Pinnae in 4–18 pairs, narrowly lanceolate to ovate; bases asymmetrically cuneate, stalked; margins ±evenly serrate, rarely once incised to the costa at base; apices acute; longest pinnae at or just below middle, (2–) 5–15 cm long, 1–2 cm wide, gradually reducing upwards to a terminal pinna similar to lateral pinnae or fused with penultimate pinna. Sori 5–10 mm long.
