Characteristics

Rhizome erect to suberect, up to 4 mm in diam., with stipe bases and castaneous to black, narrowly lanceolate scales, up to 4.5 x 0.8 mm, entire to repand. Fronds caespitose, erect, up to 350 mm long. Stipe castaneous, nitid, shallowly sulcate distally, up to 95 mm long, up to 1.2 mm in diam., proximally with castaneous, narrowly lanceolate, cuspidate and filiform scales, up to 4 x 0.3 mm. Lamina 1-pinnate, narrowly linear, up to 480 x 26 mm, with up to 55 articulated pinna pairs, often proliferous near base. Pinnae firmly herbaceous, oblong, dimidiate, becoming cuneate-flabellate or broadly rhomboid towards base, up to 14 x 7 mm, serrate along the upper and outer margins, glabrous. Sori linear, solitary (occasionally 2 or 3), set along and near the basiscopic margin, up to 5 mm long. Indusium linear, entire to subentire.
More
Rhizome erect to suberect, c. 3 mm in diameter, set with black, lanceolate-attenuate, hair-pointed rhizome-scales c. 4 mm long, with reddish-brown subentire borders. Fronds tufted, firmly membranous, rarely gemmiferous on stipe; stipe atrocastaneous, shorter than lamina, nitid, set at first with attenuate sinuose scales, persistent basally; lamina linear, acute, somewhat decrescent, up to 300 x 25 mm, pinnate; pinnae in up to 45 pairs, oblong-falcate, becoming broadly cuneate-flabellate basally, outer margins prominently crenate-dentate, upper surface glabrous, lower surface, with occasional 1-or 2-celled scales. Sori usually solitary on each pinna (occasionally 2), c. 2 mm long, set on vein nearest to and running parallel to basiscopic margin; indusium membranous, sub-entire, c. 0.6 mm broad.
Roots not proliferous. Stems erect, unbranched; scales black with lighter margins, linear-lanceolate, 3--6 × 0.4--0.8 mm, margins entire. Leaves monomorphic. Petiole reddish brown throughout, lustrous, 1--12(--20) cm, 1/3--1/10 length of blade; indument of black filiform scales. Blade linear, 1-pinnate throughout, 5--25(--40) × 1--2.5(--3) cm, thick, glabrous; base gradually tapered; apex acute, not rooting. Rachis reddish brown throughout, lustrous, glabrous. Pinnae in 10--40 pairs, oblong to quadrangular, somewhat asymmetric; medial pinnae 4--15 × 2--5 mm; base rounded to cuneate; margins crenulate or ± entire; apex obtuse. Veins free, obscure. Sori 1(--3) per pinna, only on basiscopic side. Spores 32 per sporangium. n = 2 n = 108 (apogamous).
Terrestrial or epilithic. Rhizome erect to suberect, with black scales with reddish margins. Fronds tufted, suberect, pinnate, often gemmiferous in upper half of stipe, lamina linear-oblong, 150-450 x 18-27 mm, basal pinnae somewhat reduced, glabrous adaxially, with occasional small scales abaxially; pinnae roughly rectangular, acroscopically developed, margins crenate-serrate acroscopically, entire basiscopically; rachis almost black, glabrous; stipe dark brown to almost black, with scattered scales when young, glabrous at maturity. Sporangia in elongate-linear to oval sori borne singly (rarely 2) per pinna near costa along lower margins, with subentire indusium.
Perennial with erect rhizome. Fronds to 35 cm, suberect, stipe initially scaled, often proliferous at lamina base, lamina linear, 1-pinnate, pinnae to 1.4 cm long, oblong-falcate, broadly cuneate-flabellate at base, outer margins crenate-dentate, sparsely scaled beneath. Sori solitary, parallel to basiscopic margin, indusium subentire.
Rhizome erect to suberect, set with black rhizome scales. Stipe castaneous, nitid. Fertile pinnae bearing 1 (or at most 2) sori. Pinnae oblong-falcate, becoming broadly cuneate-flabellate basally, margin prominently crenate-dentate. Lamina linear, up to 300 x 25 mm.
