Characteristics

Plants to 0.5–0.6 m tall, without basal leaves. Culms erect; nodes 3 or 4, exserted, sericeous. Leaves glabrous to scabrous and tuberculate; ligule 0.25–0.4 mm long, obtuse, membranous, glabrous; auricles absent; blade withering before flowering, stiff, linear, loosely rolled, 2–3.5 cm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, ribbed and minutely tuberculate on abaxial surface. Inflorescence c. 11 (–25) cm long, sparse; spikelets gaping. Glumes subequal, 16 mm long, acute to acuminate. Callus (1.5–) 2 mm long, weakly bent, densely white-sericeous. Lemma cylindrical, 8.5–10 mm long, scabrous, sericeous; coma 0.4–0.8 mm long; lobes c. 0.5 mm long or absent; awn 60–85 mm long, with a pubescent column 35–50 mm long, and scabrous bristle. Palea subequal to lemma, obtuse or erose. Lodicules 3, obtuse or acute.
