Characteristics

Plants c. 0.5 m tall. Culms erect; nodes 3 or 4, exserted. Leaves: ligule 1.5–2.5 mm long, truncate to obtuse, sometimes ciliate, membranous, sericeous on abaxial surface; auricles, when present, thickened, ciliate at base; blade tightly rolled, 1–2 mm wide, pungent, smooth and glabrous on abaxial surface. Inflorescence 10–20 cm long, ±contracted; spikelets gaping. Glumes unequal, 21–23 mm long, acute to acuminate. Callus 2.6–3.2 mm long, weakly bent at tip, densely sericeous. Lemma cylindrical, 8–10 mm long, smooth to slightly granular, densely sericeous with hairs white turning golden at maturity; coma 0.6–1.2 mm long; lobes 0.2–0.7 mm long, ciliate; awn 90–110 mm long, with densely pubescent column 30–35 mm long and scabrous bristle. Palea ±equal to lemma, obtuse. Lodicules 2 (?3), oblong.
