Characteristics

Perennial to c. 0.45 m tall. Leaves: ligule 0.4–1.5 mm long, truncate; auricles with long woolly hairs; blade expanded to loosely rolled, to c. 20 cm long, 1.5–4 mm wide, densely long-woolly to very shortly pubescent or glabrous on abaxial surface. Inflorescence 10–15 cm long, contracted; spikelets not gaping at maturity and only slightly gaping after floret disarticulation. Glumes unequal, 19–26 mm long, acuminate, hyaline at apex. Callus c. 3 mm long, sericeous. Lemma 6.5–8 mm long, dark brown at maturity, glabrous; coma 1.5 mm long; awn 65–80 mm long, twicegeniculate. Palea equal to lemma, obtuse. Lodicules 2 or 3; abaxial lodicules oblong; paleal absent or acute.
