Characteristics

Plants to 0.6 cm tall, with shoots extravaginal. Culms erect or geniculate; nodes 2, just exserted. Leaves: ligule 0.3–3.0 mm long, truncate, sometimes ciliate, firmly membranous, glabrous on abaxial surface; auricles tufted; blade tightly convolute, 0.5–1 mm wide, glabrous or with a few hairs on abaxial surface. Inflorescence to 12 cm long, contracted or narrowly open, sparse; spikelets gaping early. Glumes subequal to unequal, 12–17 mm long, acuminate to broadly acute. Callus 2.2–3.0 mm long, straight, with hairs similar to those of lemma. Lemma narrowly turbinate to narrowly fusiform, 6.5–8.0 mm long, finely granular, red-brown at maturity, with sparse white to red-brown hairs; coma obscure, 0.5–1.5 mm long; lobes 0.1–0.5 mm long; awn 50–80 mm long, with pubescent column 22–30 mm long and scaberulous bristle. Palea c. 0.5 mm shorter than lemma, obtuse. Lodicules 3, oblong or acute.
