Characteristics

Plants 0.5–1 m tall, with a basal leaf-tuft. Culms erect, 1.5–2 mm wide, glabrous; nodes 3–5, exserted, sericeous. Leaves: sheaths not inflated, slightly ribbed, glabrous; ligule 0.1–1 mm long, truncate, densely ciliate; blade weakly rolled to folded, to 50 cm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, with abaxial surface ribbed, glabrous. Inflorescence c. 25 cm long. Glumes equal to unequal, 11–15 mm long, acute to acuminate. Callus 1–1.5 mm long, densely orange-sericeous. Lemma fusiform, 7–9.5 mm long, smooth to granular, orangepilose; coma to 2.5 mm long; lobes 1.5–2.5 mm long; awn 40–55 mm long, scabrous, with column 20–25 mm long. Palea bilobed. Lodicules 3.
