Characteristics

Shrub or liana up to 8 m high; branches greyish dark brown, pubescent; branchlets densely pubescent.. Leaves petiolate; blade narrowly elliptic to oblong, 3.4–11.5 cm long, 1.5–3 cm wide, acuminate or apiculate at the apex, rarely obtuse, cuneate at the base, glabrous above, pubescent or puberulous beneath, with 7–12 pairs of secondary veins, 2nd–7th vein conspicuously arcuate; domatia present; petiole 1.5–7 mm long, pubescent, with colleters half way up and sometimes with 1–2 in the axils.. Inflorescence axillary and terminal, few-flowered cymes, indumentum dark red brown or dark grey; peduncles 1.1–10 mm long; pedicels 2–5.5 mm long.. Flowers fragrant; sepals ovate or triangular, up to 3 mm long, with 5–9 colleters at the base; corolla white or creamy, sometimes with black spots, inside red-striped; tube funnel-shaped, 4.8–6.5 mm long, (dark) grey-pubescent outside, with distinct scales 1.5–2 mm from the base; lobes ovate or strap-shaped, 4.8–8 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, obtuse or subacute at the apex, variably grey-pubescent outside, glabrous inside, variably ciliate; ovary subglobose, entirely black-pubescent or only at the apex; style 0.6–1.7 mm long, minutely pubescent.. Fruit follicles rusty brown, minutely pubescent, 20–30 (50) cm long, 0.4–0.5 cm in diameter; seed black or dark red-brown, up to 18 mm long, coma pale red, 17–25 mm long.
