Characteristics

Liana up to 15 m high or scandent shrub up to 8 m high; branches pale grey to brown; branchlets pubescent or glabrescent.. Leaves petiolate; blade obovate to elliptic, 4.2–11 cm long, 1.7–4.5 cm wide, obtuse to cuspidate at the apex, mostly acuminate, cuneate at the base, glabrous above, glabrous or glabrescent beneath; secondary veins in 5–10 pairs, domatia red and mostly palisade-like; petiole 2–10 mm long, glabrous or minutely pubescent, with colleters above.. Inflorescences axillary and/or terminal, pubescent; peduncle 3–61 mm long; pedicels 0.9–4.6 mm long.. Flowers fragrant; sepals ovate or narrowly ovate, 0.5–2.7 mm long, obtuse to subacute at the apex, minutely pubescent outside, ciliate, with colleters within; corolla white or yellow; tube 1.3–2.9 mm long, glabrous or minutely pubescent outside, scales indistinct, with tufts of hairs inside; lobes ovate to strap-shaped, 5–10 mm long, 0.8–1.8 mm wide, obtuse to subacute at the apex; disk 0.1–0.2 mm high, pistil 1.1–2.1 mm high; ovary cylindrical or subglobose, glabrous or pubescent at the apex; style 0.2–0.6 mm long.. Fruits follicles brown-pubescent or glabrescent, 6–30 cm long, 2–5 mm in diameter; seeds 12–13 mm long; coma 14–16 mm long.

Flowers aromatic, in 3–20-flowered axillary cymes, fairly congested, and (less often) also at the same time in a terminal thyrsoid, many-flowered lax inflorescence.
Follicles, 6–30 cm. long and 2–5 mm. in diam., often slightly constricted between the seeds, brown-pubescent outside, glabrescent.
Sepals 0·6–1·2 mm. long, ovate to triangular, outside pubescent, inside pubescent except at the base, ciliate.
