Characteristics

Leaves petiolate; petiole 0·5–3(6) mm. long, densely brown-pubescent; lamina elliptic to ovate, or narrowly so, (0·3)0·6–4·7 x (0·2)0·4–1·5 cm., at the apex subacute and often slightly mucronate, at the base cuneate, rounded or subcordate, chartaceous to subcoriaceous, pubescent on both sides, glabrescent except along the margin and on the midrib; at each side with 5–25 inconspicuous secondary veins.

Corolla tube white outside, inside white with red longitudinal striations, 2·5–5 mm. long, pubescent outside except the portion covered by the sepals; inside with tufts of stiff hairs at 0·2–1·5 mm. from the base; lobes white, sometimes tipped with yellow, 7–22 mm. long, very narrowly triangular, sparsely pubescent or glabrous outside, often ciliate, inside glabrous.
Pistil 2·1–2·7 mm. long; carpels 0·8–1·2 mm. long; disk 0·1–0·2 mm. high and lobes c. 0·1 mm. long, pubescent; style 0·3–0·7 mm. long, pubescent; clavuncula 0·4–0·6 mm. long; stigma 0·2–0·4 mm. long.
Fruit a pair of follicles, 15–50 cm. long and 2–8 mm. in diam., slightly constricted between the seeds, densely brown-pubescent outside.
Flowers in 1–3-flowered, axillary lax cymes (often also in terminal 1–15-flowered, lax thyrsoid inflorescences), sweet scented.
Rhizomatous creeper, climbing shrub, or liana up to 6 m. or more high, twining and climbing over shrubs and in trees.
Sepals 1·8–5 mm. long, ovate to triangular, outside pubescent, inside pubescent except the base, ciliate.
Branches purplish-grey, sometimes with small orange-brown lenticels; branchlets densely brown-pubescent.
Stamens with filaments 0·2–0·5 mm. long, anthers 1·8–2·5 mm. long.
