Characteristics

Liana; stems shiny, moderately appressed-pubescent, glabrescent. Leaves opposite, coriaceous, mostly elliptic-ovate, sometimes oblong-elliptic, mostly abruptly acuminate at the apex, obtuse to rounded or subcordate at the base, 4.5-13 cm long, 2.5-6.5 cm wide, often with a pair of large round or ellipsoid glands at the base, glabrous to sparsely pubescent with fine, flexuose trichomes on both the surfaces, entire or occasionally with minute glandular teeth, midrib prominently sunken, primary lateral veins arcuate-ascending, prominulous, sec-ondary lateral veins prominulous, with the reticulum on the upper surface ob-scure, areoles usually more than 1 mm across, petioles canaliculate, sparsely appressed-pubescent, 4-12 mm long. Inflorescences cymose-paniculate, axillary and terminal, many-flowered, the branches sparsely appressed-pubescent; brac-teoles leaf-like but narrower, with glandular teeth; terminal peduncles short, 4-6-flowered, appressed-pubescent; pedicels slender, glabrous, 4-12 mm long. Flowers yellow; petals and sepals glabrous; sepals membranaceous, suborbicular, ca. 2 mm long, their basal glands oblong, thick, ca. 2 mm long at anthesis; petals clawed, suborbicular, shortly fimbriate with glandular teeth, to 1 cm long includ-ing claw, to 8.5 cm wide; stamens with filaments glabrous, connate basally, ca. 3 mm long, the anthers orbicular to ellipsoid, ca. 0.8 mm long, the connective thick, glandular; ovary villose, the styles 3, ca. 3.2 mm long, equal, truncate at apex. Samaras 2.5-2.8 cm long, becoming reddish, sparsely stramineous-stri-gose, rounded at the apex, the ventral margin thickened, curved outward, lateral wings lacking, the seminiferous area smooth.
