Inflorescences 3–10-flowered, in dense fascicles up to 1.5 × 2 cm, mostly in the axils of fallen leaves; bracteoles 1 × 1 mm, ovate, ciliate.
Corolla white; tube 9–17(19) mm long; lobes 3–9(11) × 1–4(4.5) mm, finely appressed pubescent outside.
Young stems dark, shiny and wrinkled when dry, older stems covered with pale corky bark.
Calyx tube 2 mm long; lobes c. 1–2 mm long and wide, elliptic, rounded, usually ciliate.
Anthers 4.5–5.5 mm long, their tips 1–4(6) mm below the throat.
Fruits red, 1.2–1.3(1.7) × 1–1.5 cm; stipe c. 4 mm long.
Stigma borne level with anthers or well below them.
Large shrub or small tree (1.5)3–12 m high.
Flowers scented, ± dimorphic.
