Characteristics

Perennial, compact, dwarf shrublet forming mats, up to 0.8 m in diam., central plants dying out, leaving a ring of younger plants up to 0.1 m high (including inflorescences, roots thick. Leaves glaucous, lanceolate, opposite, smooth, apex acute, mucronate, central pair borne erect, outer pair spreading. Flowers borne in well-developed cymes, yellow, opening in late afternoon, closing at night. Flowering time spring to early autumn, peaking in Nov., Dec. Capsules 5-locular with triangular closing bodies, expanding sheets broad, expanding keels broad, valve wings absent.
