Characteristics

Herba perennis erecta cr. 50 cm alta. Caulis in parte superiore ramosus, pilis glanduliferis dense obtectus, foliatus et partibus supremis exceptis alatus. Folia alterna, basalia verisimiliter ± conferta, obovati-oblonga, in petiolum angustata, petiolo incluso cr. 50 cm longa, 5-8 cm lata, margine repandi-sinuata, spinis usque ad 2 mm longis dense ciliata, supra pilis hyalinis glanduliferis brevibus obtecta, subtus dense glandulosa; folia caulina sessilia, sensim minora, obovati-oblonga, pinna-tilobata lobis in 4-5 iugis dispositis semiorbicularibus, ut folia basalia densp spinulosi-ciliatai indumento basalibus similia, decurrentia in alas 4-8 mm latas leviter repandas ut folia spinosi-ciliatas. Capitula in apicibus ramorum solitaria, radiata, ligulis expansis 3.5-4.5 cm diam. Involucri squamae patentes, extus glandulosae, intus subglabrae vel glabrae, lanceolatae, 2-5 mm latae, spinosi-acuminatae, margine spinis 1-2 mm longis saepe geminatis et ceterum spinulis minoribus obsitae, mediae cr. 10 mm longae, ceterae paulum breviores. Margines alveolarum receptaculi in setas stramineas 1-5 mm longas productae. Achaenia 1.5-2 mm longa, glabra. Pappi squamae uniseriatae, cr. 10, interdum partim in coronam connatae, obtusae, apice denticulatae, 0.4-0.6 mm longae.
