Home
Shrub up to 1.2 m high. Stems not winged, densely leafy. Leaves alternate, scattered along stem, sessile; blade up to 80 mm long, pinnatifid, leaf segments linear, 4-6 on each side, up to 3 mm wide, each lobe ending in a rigid spine, margins entire, revolute, upper surface sparsely hairy, glabrescent, lower surface white-felted. Heads radiate or sometimes apparently discoid, up to 40 mm in diameter, subpaniculately arranged terminally, shortly pedunculate. Involucral bracts connate at base, linear, 1.0-1.5 mm wide, apex with rigid spine, margins without or only few, small spines near base, white-felted on backs. Flowers: ray and disc florets yellow; flowering time? Fruit with cypsela turbinate, pilose or glabrous, 2-3 mm long. Pappus of scales, biseriate, 0.2-0.5 mm long, oblong or ovate.
Perennial shrub, 0.5-1.2 m high; densely branched. Leaves closely set, pinnatisect, linear, upper surface glabrescent, lower surface woolly. Capitula terminal, paniculate; involucral bracts concrescent at base, outer ones leaf-like, but smaller, inner ones erect, closely spinose-ciliate. Receptacle flat, with small erect ovate paleae with acute laciniate apices. Ray florets few (absent in some capitula), yellow, ligulate. Disc florets many, yellow, tubular. Flowering time Oct.? Pappus biseriate, outer scales oblong or obovate, obtuse, inner scales narrower and bifid. Cypselae obconical, angled and striate.
Rigid, densely leafy shrublet, up to 1.2 m tall, stems white-woolly when young. Leaves alternate, stiffly spreading, 4-6-pinnatifid, 40-80 mm long, cobwebbed and glabrescent above, thickly cobwebbed beneath, lobes linear and spine-tipped, with spines 1.5-3 mm long, margins revolute. Flowerheads in paniculate cymes, sparsely and shortly radiate or discoid, yellow, 20-30 mm diam.; outer bracts stiffly spreading, subulate with spiny margins, 8-15 mm long, inner smaller. Pappus scales 10 + 10, oblong-ovate or inner bilobed, denticulate, 0.2-0.5 mm long.
