Characteristics

Herba perennis erecta, fide collect.cr. 1.5 m alta. Caulis in parte superiore ramosus, in partibus iunioribus pilis glanduliferis minutissimis dense obtectus, deinde glabrescens ± aequaliter foliatus. Folia alterna, sessilia, membranacea, ovati-lanceolata, cr. 10-15 cm longa, 3-4.5 cm lata superioribus sensim minoribus supremis 3 ub capitulis bracteiformibus lineari-lanceolatis cr. 8-10 mm longis 1-2 mm latis, apice acuta, in spinam brevem excurrentia, margine integerrima, spinalis debilibus cr. 0.5-1 mm longis ciliata, supra et subtus subglabra (pilis minutissimis sparsis obsita). Capitula in apicibus ramorum inflorescentiam subcorymbiformem formantia, radiata, ligulis expansis cr. 4-6 cm diam. Involucri squamae patentes, pilis glanduliferis minutissimis obtectae, lineari-lanceolatae, 2-3 mm latae interioribus sensim minoribus et denique 0.5-1 mm longis, spinosi-acuminatae, margine spinis 1-2 mm longis pectinatim ciliatae, mediae (12-)15-20 mm longae, ceterae paulum breviores. Lobi corollarum florum disci apice leviter callosi-incrassati. Margines alveolarum receptaculi in dentes cr. 1 mm longos productae. Achaenia cr. 1.5 mm longa, pilis brevissimis obtecta vel subglabra. Pappi squamae subbiseriatae, cr. 10+10, obovati-oblongae, obtusae, ad apicem denticulatae, cr. 2 mm longae.
