Characteristics

Herba perennis erecta cr. 30-35 cm alta, rhizomate lignoso. Caulis simplex vel in parte superiore pauciramosus, pilis glanduliferis minutissimis dense obtectus, tota longitudine dense et aequaliter foliatus. Folia alterna, sessilia, linearia, rigida, 1-3 cm longa, 1-2 mm lata, apice acuta, in spinam flavam cr. 2 mm longam excurrentia, margine revoluta, in lateribus et in margine usque ad basin spinis usque ad 2 mm longis ciliata, supra pilis glanduliferis brevibus ± densis (tunc in sicco scaberula) vel sparsis obtecta vel subglabra, subtus inter nervum medianum et margines revolutas albi-tomentosa. Capitula in apice caulis vel in apicibus ramorum solitaria, radiata, ligulis expansis 2-3 cm diam. Involucri squamae patentes, forma et indumento foliis similes, lineares, cr. 1 mm latae, spinosi-erttuminatae, margine spinis ut in foliis ciliatae, mediae cr. 10 mm longae, ceterae paulum breviores. Margines alveolarum receptaculi in setas cr. 1 mm longas productae. Achaenia 2-2.5 mm longa, pilis sericeis brevissimis densis obtecta. Pappi squamae subbiseriatae vel plerumque uni-seriatae, cr. 10-16, oblongae vel obovati-oblongae, apice ± obtusae, denticulatae vel ± inclsae, cr. 0.8-1 mm longae.
