Folia alterna, rigida, sessilia, semi-amplexicaulia, cr. 4-6(-8) cm longa superioribus sensim minoribus, pinnatifida rhachide lineari (1-)2-5(-7) mm lata in spinam fulvam 2-3 mm longam excurrente, laciniis in 2-3 iugis dispositis ceterum basin folii versus compluribus laciniis minoribus et denique ad spinas reductis auctis lineari-subulatis vel triangulati-subulatis cr. 10-30 mm longis basin folii versus decrescentibus (1-)2-5 mm latis ut apex rhachidis in spinam excurrentibus cum laciniis multo minoribus vel ad spinam reductis geminatis, margine subrevoluta vel revoluta, supra et subtus ± dense vel tenuiter tomentosa vel pilis glanduliferis dense puberula, deinde (imprimis supra) glabrescentia. Capitula in parte superiore ramorum in axillis foliorum breviter pedunculata pedunculis 2-10 mm longis folia pauca bracteiformia gerentibus, inflorescentiam racemiformem formantia, discoidea, (0.7-)1-1.5(-2.5) cm diam. Involucri squamae pauciseriatae, erectipatentes, indumento foliis similes, extimae plerumque ad spinas reductae, sequentes triangulatae vel ovatae, cito longiores et denique triangulati-subulatae vel-lanceolatae vel ovati-lanceolatae, (7-)10-17 mm longae, intimae lineari-lanceolatae, breviores; omnes apice in spinam excurrentes et margine (intimis exceptis) spinis obsitae. Margines alveolarum receptaculi subintegerrimae. Achaenia 2-3 mm longa, pilis brevissimis sparsis obtecta vel subglabra vel glabra.
