Characteristics

Herba perennis erecta, verisimiliter cr. 40-50 cm alta. Caulis in parte superiore ramosus, levissime tomentosus, glabrescens, foliatus. Folia alterna, sessilia, semiamplexicaulia, rigida, basalia ± conferta, anguste obovata, basin versus angustata, cr. 20 cm longa, cr. 5 cm lata, pinnatilobata lobis in cr. 10 iugis dispositis semi-orbicularibus profunde spinosi-dentatis; folia caulina oblonga, suprema ovati-oblonga et basi cordata, spinosi-dentata, omnia supra et subtus pilis nyalinis (glanduliferis?) obtecta et ceterum levissime tomentosa, ± glabrescentia. Capitula complura in apicibus ramorum, discoidea, involucri squamis expansis (5-)6-7(-10) cm diam. Involucri squamae patentes, indumento foliis similes, lanceolati-subulatae, cr. 5-7 mm latae, margine spinis 2-5 mm longis ± remotis obsitae, mediae (25-)30-40 mm longae, ceterae breviores. Achaenia cr. 2.5 mm longa, pilis brevibus densis obsita. Pappi squamae subbiseriatae, cr. 10+10, oblongi-obovatae, subobtusae, apicem versus denticulatae, cr. 2 mm longae.
