Characteristics

Herba perennis erecta, fide collect, usque ad 2 m alta. Caulis in parte superiore ramosus, pilis hyalinis glanduliferis obtectus, saepe purpurascens, foliatus. Folia alterna, sessilia, semiamplexicaulia, basi ± cordata, ambitu anguste oblonga, cr. 5-10(-12) cm longa, 15-20(-25) mm lata superioribus sensim minoribus supremis bracteiformibus, pinnatilobata lobis in cr. 5-10 iugis dispositis profunde in complures dentes triangulati-subulatos spinosi-acuminatos partitis, in interstitiis spinis cr. 0.5-2 mm longis obsita, in laciniam terminalem non lobatam subulatam 15-25 mm longam spinosi-acuminatam excurrentia, supra et subtus pilis glanduliferis obtecta, ± glabrescentia, fere nitentia. Capitula in apicibus ramorum in inflorescentiam paniculatam disposita, radiata, involucri squamis expansis 3-5 cm diam. Involucri squamae patentes, pilis glanduliferis obtectae, anguste triangulati-subulatae, spinosi-acuminatae, margine spinis 1-3 mm longis in 2-3 iugis ± basi approximates dispositis et ceterum interdum paucis spinis minoribus obsitae, mediae 15-25 mm longae, 2-3 mm latae, ceterae breviores et paulum angustiores. Margines alveolarum receptaculi in setas stramineas 1-2 mm longas productae. Achaenia 1.5-2 mm longa, pilis brevissimis sparsis obtecta vel subglabra vel glabra. Pappi squamae uniseriatae, cr. 20, oblongae, obtusae, apice vix vel minutissime denticulatae, cr. 0.2-0.3 mm longae.
