Characteristics

Shrubby climber to 4.5 m.; stems velvety with patent and tangled hairs which are white or grey in life but golden-brown when dry.. Leaf-blade elliptic-lanceolate to oblong-ovate, 2.5–8.5 cm. long, 1–4.8 cm. wide, acute and mucronulate or apiculate at the apex, rounded or slightly cordate at the base, velvety pubescent with hairs similar to those on the stem; petiole 0.8 cm. long.. Flowers in bracteate, densely hirsute, capitate inflorescences; peduncle up to 3.2 cm. long; bracts 1–1.2 cm. long, 0.5–0.6 cm. wide, hirsute outside and glabrous inside.. Sepals unequal, glabrous save for apices of the outer ones, about 6 mm. long.. Corolla blue, funnel-shaped, 2 cm. long, pilose outside, entire or nearly so..
