Leaves subcoriaceous, shortly petioled; leaf-lamina elliptic-lanceolate to oblong-ovate, 2·5–11·5 × 1–4·3 cm., acute and mucronulate or apiculate at the apex, rounded or slightly cordate at the base, velvety pubescent above, densely coated with brown hairs beneath; petiole up to 1·0 cm. long.
Flowers in bracteate densely hirsute, capitate inflorescences; peduncles up to 4 cm. long, axillary, many-flowered; bracts 1–1·5 × 0·5–0–8 cm., hirsute outside and margin with a rusty tomentum, glabrous inside.
Stems woody, velvety with patent and tangled hairs (white or grey in life but golden brown when dry).
Sepals unequal, up to 9 mm. long, elliptic-oblong, acute, glabrous except the apex of the outer ones.
Corolla bright blue, funnel-shaped, up to 3 cm. long, not distinctly lobed, pilose outside.
Ovary hairy at the apex; style unequally bifid above the middle; stigmas ovoid.
Seeds oblong, brownish, edged with narrow hyaline golden wings.
Shrubby climber up to 5 m. or more.
Capsule globose-oblong, pilose.
