Characteristics

Climbing shrub with ridged, sparsely adpressedly pubescent stems.. Leaf-blade elliptic, 2–5.5 cm. long, 0.8–2.3 cm. wide, acute or obtuse and apiculate at the apex, ± cuneate at the base, glabrescent and green or silvery pubescent above, silky pubescent below (not densely so when young in the Tanganyika specimens); petiole about 1 cm. long, slightly winged.. Flowers in rather lax 2–3 (–few)-flowered cymes aggregated towards the ends of the branchlets; peduncle and pedicels usually 5–10 mm. long; bracts small.. Sepals oblong-elliptic, 7–8 mm. long, abruptly acute, silky pubescent.. Corolla blue, funnel-shaped, (1.5)–2–2.5 cm. long, silky pilose on midpetaline areas.. Ovary glabrous; style bifid from about the middle; stigmas ellipsoidal.. Capsule globose, about 7 mm. in diameter, shortly apiculate, glabrous.. Seeds oblong, 3–4 mm. long, blackish with narrow hyaline golden wings on edges and also forming a network on the surface.
