Capitula numerous in small, often rather congested clusters in terminal and upper axillary compound corymbiform cymes; stalks of individual capitula crispate-pubescent to tomentose with brownish hairs; involucres obconic-cylindrical to campanulate, 7-13 mm long, 8-10 mm in diameter; phyllaries more or less 3-seriate, narrowly ovate, acute or obtuse and pungent-apiculate, inner pectinate-fimbriate on the pallid or lilac membranous margins, acute, 6-10 mm long, all somewhat darker centrally towards the apex, glabrous or the outer sometimes also pubescent centrally or ciliate on the margins..
