Shrub or woody herb 0.6-1.8 m tall; stems densely white-tomentose to almost glabrous.. Leaves alternate, petiolate or sessile, (narrowly) ovate, 5.5-11 cm long, 1.6-4.2 cm wide, base rounded to cuneate, margins (coarsely) crenate-serrate, apex obtuse and apiculate, thinly closely tomentose to almost glabrous and glandular above, densely white-tomentose to glabrous beneath; petiole absent or 0.5-2 cm long.. Capitula very numerous in copious congested terminal compound corymbiform cymes; stalks of individual capitula tomentose or glabrous; involucres cylindrical, 5-8 mm long, 2 mm in diameter at flowering time; phyllaries 3-4-seriate, (narrowly) ovate, apiculate, darker and tomentose to almost glabrous in centre towards their apex, the inner pale-margined, fimbriate-pectinate, acute to subobtuse, apiculate, 5-6 mm long, all sometimes more or less purple-tinged in upper part.. Florets 2-4 per capitulum; corolla 5.5-6.8 mm long, pale lavender-mauve to white, lobes 2.5 mm long.. Achenes 2.2-2.5 mm long, obtusely 4-5-angled, apically with shallow obtusely 5-toothed rim; pappus of few caducous bristles 2-3 mm long.
