Annual herb 15-45 cm tall, slender and unbranched except for the inflorescence; stems erect, spongy, reddish proximally, sparsely shortly ascending-strigose, sparsely glandular.. Leaves alternate, sessile, olive green, slightly fleshy, linear, 1-4.5 cm long, 1-3 mm wide, obtuse, shortly ascending-strigose on margins and mid-rib beneath, glandular.. Capitula in lax diffuse terminal and upper axillary cymes, the branches filiform; stalks of individual capitula very slender, to 3 cm long, spreading, shortly ascending-strigose; involucres 2-3 mm long; phyllaries 3-seriate, narrowly ovate, shortly ascending-strigose, glandular, reddish purple in upper part, the inner acute, membranous-margined, 2.5 mm long.. Florets long-exserted; corolla deep lavender, 3 mm long, lobes 1.3 mm long.. Achene (immature) 0.6 mm long; pappus 0.

Phyllaries few-seriate, usually purplish, glandular and sparsely puberulous outside, margins subhyaline, the outer from c. 2 mm. long, the remainder c. 3 mm. long, lanceolate to ± oblong.

Corollas mauve, strongly exserted, c. 3 mm. long, limb broadly campanulate, tube slender, glandular otherwise glabrous.
Capitula many, laxly paniculate, 1–8 on each branch; capitula-stalks somewhat divaricate, to c. 30 mm. long, filiform.
Achenes (immature) c. 0.5-? mm. long, ?-ribbed; pappus absent.
