Characteristics

Shrub 1.5-2.5 m tall; stems erect, little-branched, brownish-tomentose.. Leaves alternate, aromatic, petiolate, elliptic, 10-20 cm long, 3.5-8 cm wide, base cuneate or attenuate, margins serrate, apex acuminate, sparsely shortly pubescent especially on veins above, sparsely glandular; petiole 0.4-2.5 cm long.. Capitula numerous, in small, congested clusters, these in turn long-stalked in terminal compound cymes; stalks of individual capitula short, tomentose with brownish hairs; involucres cylindrical, 6-10 mm long at flowering time; phyllaries more or less 3-seriate, ovate, pungent-apiculate, darker centrally in upper part, glabrous or sometimes the outermost pubescent, the inner narrowly ovate, fimbriate on the pallid membranous margins, acute, 7-10 mm long.. Corolla purplish white, 5-6 mm long, sparsely glandular, lobes 2-2.5 mm long.. Achenes turbinate, 2-2.5 mm long, almost smooth, 4-5-ribbed, crowned with a small undulate-denticulate rim; pappus of few caducous bristles 1.5-3 mm long.
