Characteristics

Phyllaries subequal, usually purplish, sparsely puberulous outside, margins subhyaline and sparsely ciliate, the outer from c. 2 mm. long, the remainder c. 4 mm. long, lanceolate-oblong, subobtuse.

Leaves alternate, sessile, mostly 10–25 x 0.5–1.5 mm., linear, semi-fleshy, sparsely appressed puberulous to glabrous, gland-pitted.
Achenes (immature) 1.2–1.8 mm. long, narrowly subcylindric-obovoid, ?5–8-ribbed, narrowly grooved between the ribs; pappus absent.
Stems creeping-decumbent and rooting at the nodes, long slender and much branched, leafy, sparsely puberulous or glabrous.
Corollas mauve, exserted, 4–6 mm. long, narrowly funnel-shaped, minutely glandular otherwise glabrous.
Capitula solitary, terminal on erect branch-ends, borne 7–15 cm. above the water.
Receptacular paleae sometimes present near the receptacle margins.
Involucres 4–5 x 5–6(8) mm., broadly obconic.
