Phyllaries rnembranous-scarious with subhyaline margins, minutely pectinate-ciliate about the apex, puberulous outside, appressed imbricate to diverging, the outer from c. 1 mm. long, the inner to c. 5 mm. long, ovate-lanceolate to oblong, the innermost lorate, apices shortly pungent and ± squarrose.
Achenes c. 1.2 mm. long, narrowly obovoid-oblong, with c. 5(7) low broad ribs, the ribs separated by narrower dark-brown densely gland-filled grooves, achenes rounded above with a shallow apical depression, glabrous; pappus of few very caducous barbellate setae to c. 2 mm. long.
Stems annual, herbaceous becoming somewhat woody below, leafy, branching above, puberulous; hairs short-stalked asymmetric T-shaped, or hairs with an excentric terminal cell.
Corollas purplish, c. 6 mm. long, narrowly funnel-shaped with a tubular lower portion, sparsely glandular.
Capitula small, numerous, ± densely clustered in corymbiform cymes; capitula stalks 0–5 mm. long.
An erect bushy suffrutescent herb to c. 1.5 m. tall from a woody rootstock.
Involucres 4–6 x 4 mm., broadly ovoid to cyathiform-campanulate.
