Characteristics

Erect shrub 3.5 m tall; stems minutely tomentellous.. Leaves alternate, petiolate, narrowly elliptic, 7.5-14 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, base attenuate, margins serrate, apex attenuate, tomentellous on main veins beneath, otherwise almost glabrous; petiole 0.7-1 cm long.. Capitula numerous in rather dense terminal compound corymbiform cymes; involucres campanulate-cylindrical, 6-7 mm long, 3.5-6 mm in diameter at flowering time; phyllaries 4-seriate, outer narrowly ovate, obtuse, apiculate, pectinate, median oblong, rounded, darker centrally towards the apex, ciliate on margins, inner narrowly ovate, fimbriate-pectinate, more or less acute, 5.5 mm long.. Corolla lilac, 6-7 mm long, lobes 2-3 mm long.. Achenes 1.1-1.7 mm long, 5-ribbed, distally abruptly widened into a pale horny ring, slightly depressed at the centre; pappus of few barbellate bristles 1.1-1.5 mm long.
