Decumbent or ascending annual; culms 10–60 cm. high.. Leaf-blades lanceolate, 1–10 cm. long, 2–10 mm. wide, the margins cartilaginous.. Inflorescence of 3–20 racemes on an axis 1–7 cm. long; racemes 0.5–3 cm. long, subsecund, bearing single or paired spikelets in 1–2 irregular rows on a triquetrous rhachis, sometimes with a few short branchlets at base of longer racemes.. Spikelets elliptic, 1.5–2 mm. long, glabrous or pubescent, obtuse to acute, without a stipe; lower glume 1/3 the length of the spikelet; upper lemma granulose to striate, acute.
