Terrestrial herb 25–80 cm. high.. Roots tuberous, fleshy, ellipsoid or cylindrical, ± 1 cm. in diameter, densely woolly.. Leaves numerous, lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, acuminate, those in middle of stem up to 6 cm. long and 2.5 cm. broad, decreasing in size up the stem, ± densely velvety hairy.. Inflorescence densely many-flowered, up to 35 cm. long, 2–6 cm. in diameter; bracts similar to leaves, the lower ones usually longer than the flowers, velvety hairy.. Flowers various shades of pink or purple, often with an orange centre; pedicel with ovary 1–2 cm. long, velvety.. Dorsal sepal elliptical, obtuse or rounded at apex, 4.5–7.5 mm. long; laterals obliquely ovate or elliptical, obtuse or rounded, a little longer than the dorsal; all sepals pubescent outside.. Petals erect on each side of column, very obliquely elliptical or oblong, rounded at apex, a little shorter than the dorsal sepal, with a few hairs on the outside.. Plants erect, to 600 mm, slender to robust, pubescent except for flowers; tubers in clusters, cylindrical; leaves cauline, closely imbricate, pubescent, lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, acute to acuminate, to 60 x 20 mm. Inflorescences dense to lax spikes to 320 mm; bracts to 22 x 5 mm. Flowers numerous, c. 20 x 10 mm, sepals and petals brownish-green distally, lip mauve with a red-spotted yellow callus at the base; ovaries c. 20 mm long. Median sepal erect, shallowly concave, lanceolate, acute, forming a galea with the petals, to 5-7 x 3-4 mm; lateral sepals oblique, shielding the gynostemium, shallowly concave, acute, 6-7 x 3-4 mm. Petals oblique, obtuse, 4-6 x 2-3 mm. Lip spathulate, 7-10 mm long; limb saccate, 3 mm wide, 2 mm deep; blade dependent from junction with limb, triangular, 7-10 x 6-11 mm, trilobed with broadly diverging side lobes, all lobes obtuse; spur absent. Anther erect, c. 3 mm tall; rostellum c. 1 mm tall, 3-lobed, lateral lobes bearing the viscidia, central lobe reduced.

Inflorescence 4–35 × 2.5–3.5 cm, densely or sometimes laxly many-flowered; ovary and pedicel 1.5–2.5 cm long, pubescent, purple; bracts leaf-like, up to 25 × 6 mm at base of inflorescence, pubescent.
Terrestrial herb, up to 370 mm tall. Leaves with numerous, short, pale hairs on surface. Lip pink with a few purple spots and a basal yellow callus. Flowers pink and brownish purple on reverse.
Sepals 5–8 × 2–4.5 mm, pubescent; dorsal sepal ovate, convex, forming a hood with the petals; lateral sepals spreading, obliquely ovate.

Flowers mauve-pink to purple-pink, orange or yellow in the centre, the sepals often darker at the tips.
