Terrestrial herb 25–70 cm. high.. Roots tuberous, fleshy, ± cylindrical or ellipsoid, 1–1.5 cm. in diameter, densely woolly.. Leaves very numerous, lanceolate to ovate, acuminate, up to 6 cm. long and 3.5 cm. broad, decreasing in size up the stem, ± densely velvety hairy.. Inflorescence densely many-flowered, up to 16 cm. long, 3–4.5 cm. in diameter; bracts similar to the upper leaves, the lower ones longer than the flowers.. Flowers cream-coloured or yellow with brownish or purplish markings; pedicel with ovary 1–1.5 cm. long, densely velvety.. Dorsal sepal elliptical, obtuse, ± 5 mm. long; laterals obliquely ovate or narrowly ovate, acute, a little longer than the dorsal; all pubescent outside.. Petals obliquely oblong, rounded at apex, a little shorter than the dorsal sepal, glabrous.. Lip-hypochile shortly cup-shaped, rounded, the margins slightly angled, ± 2 mm. long and deep; epichile projecting forwards, obovate or narrowly fan-shaped, 4.5–6 mm. long, 3-lobed in the upper half, the middle lobe rounded or obtuse, longer than the side lobes.. Column rather stout, 2.5–3.5 mm. long.
