Characteristics

Perennial. Culms 28–50 cm high; mid-culm internodes hollow. Leaf blades involute (at least when dry), 12–20 cm long, 1–2.5 mm wide, adaxially minutely scabrous. Panicles weakly contracted, oblong, 7–10 cm long. Spikelets ovate, 1.75–4 mm long, with 6–8 bisexual florets; rachilla glabrous, with apical extension. Glumes green or purplish, with margins hyaline; lower glume narrowly obovate, 1.5–3.1 mm long, 3-nerved, with midnerve minutely scabrous; upper glume elliptic, 1.5–3.3 mm long, cordate, 5-nerved, with midnerve apically scabrous. Basal lemma broadly obovate to broadly elliptic, 2.5–2.75 mm long, emarginate, muticous to mucronate or shortly awned, 7-nerved, minutely papillose. Palea 1/2 length of lemma, 1 mm wide, acute to obtuse; nerves minutely scabrous. Hilum punctiform to elliptic.

Spikelet 4.0-5.0 x 2.0-3.5 mm, ovoid; glumes ± equal, shorter than spikelet, mucronate, 5-7-nerved. Florets 6-10; lemma acuminate, lobed, minutely mucronate, cordate at base. Flowering time Oct.-Dec. Caryopsis 0.5 x 0.5 mm.
