Characteristics

Annual setulose to strigulose herbs with simple to much-branched stems. Flowers in terminal bracteate cymes. Calyx divided almost to the base, ± strongly accrescent in fruit. Corolla white to blue or purple; throat with 5 longitudinal bands of hairs but with no scales. Filaments inserted below the middle of the tube; anthers included. Nutlets subpyriform in outline with ± incurved or almost straight beak, depressed-pyriform in dorsal view with ± bigibbous shoulders in lower half and laterally compressed beak with strong dorsal and ventral keel in upper half, tuberculate-rugose to granular.
