Characteristics

Perennial herb with rootstock or short rhizome. Roots thickened. Leaves 6–16, subulate, often terete towards apex, channelled below, 2–10 mm wide at midpoint, usually glaucous, glabrous. Scapes usually 2 or more, terete or obscurely angled, erect. Perianth segments 9–17 mm long. Stamens subequal, spread or loosely grouped, all with clavate hairs somewhat below anther; anthers yellow, appearing dorsifixed, all forming a convex horizontal arch after dehiscence. Ovules 3 or 4 per locule; style decumbent, 3–7 mm long; stigma entire. Capsule globose or obovate, 4–6 mm long; pedicel 12–22 mm long, erect. Seeds slightly ridged or slightly tuberculate.
