Characteristics

Perennial herb; tuber absent. Roots thickened. Leaves many, channelled, shiny, glabrous, the outer recurved and subulate, 2-8 mm wide at midpoint; innermost erect, narrow, linear. Scapes many, sharply angular, initially erect, later procumbent and flexuose. Perianth segments 8-13 mm long. Stamens 3 long, 3 short, closely bunched to one side, all with clavate hairs partly obscuring anther; anthers yellow, ±basifixed, inclining over style after dehiscence. Ovules 2-4 per locule; style erect or down-curved away from anthers, 2-3 mm long; stigma obscurely 3-lobed. Capsule 3-lobed, 3-5 mm long; pedicel 18-24 mm long, often twisting across rachis and drooping at end. Seeds heavily ridged.
