Characteristics

Emergent, erect, tufted, annual or perennial, aquatic herbs. Leaves radical, erect; petiole much longer than blade, without transverse septa; blade lanceolate to oblanceolate to elliptic, tapering into petiole, acute or obtuse, mucronate. Infloresecence terminal, umbellate, of 1 or 2 whorls exserted above leaves. Petals white. Stamens (6–) 9 (–12); staminodes absent. Ovary superior; carpels (3–) 6–8 (–9), fused for lower 30 %. Fruiting carpels 9–12 mm long, exceeding sepals. Seeds curved.
