Characteristics

Much branched twiggy, often dense shrub, up to 2 m. tall.. Young twigs with scattered glandular and eglandular hairs; flowering branchlets arising nearly at right angles.. Leaves very shortly petiolate; blade broadly elliptic, obovate-elliptic to obovate, commonly 1.5–4 cm. long, 0.8–3.2 cm. wide, terminally rounded to very obtuse, minutely mucronulate, basally rounded to broadly cuneate, papery, glabrous; petiole up to 2 mm. long.. Inflorescence a delicate open short raceme of few small flowers; pedicels somewhat filiform, 5–17 mm. long.. Outer sepals 5.5–6.5 mm. long.. Petals 11–12 mm. long; blade linear-elliptic, cream; claw pale green.. Androphore 4–5 mm. long; appendage 3–5 mm. long, with an oblique dentate rim, cream; stamens 4; filaments ± 5 mm. long, free, brownish, glabrous; anthers 0.9 mm. long, cream.. Gynophore glabrous or with a few stalked glands.. Fruits narrowly cylindrical, 1–2.5 cm. long, torulose, verruculose, glabrous or with a few stalked glands, the internal tissues vermilion..
