Characteristics

Leaf lanceolate, 40–90 × 6–8 mm, densely hairy. Flower stem 80–140 mm tall, wiry, densely hairy, 1–2-flowered. Flowers 12–20 mm across, greenish, heavily marked with red lines and suffusions; sepals and petals with short, curved tips (no clubs). Dorsal sepal erect, 15–25 × 2–2.5 mm. Lateral sepals strongly decurved close to ovary, 15–25 × 2.5–3 mm. Petals similarly arranged, 10–15 × 2–3 mm. Labellum stiffly hinged, 9–12 × 8–10 mm, heart-shaped, green with maroon apex or wholly maroon; margins with 1–6 pairs of very short blunt teeth or reduced to irregular bumps; tip recurved. Basal calli c. 3 mm long. Lamina calli to 2 mm long, purplish, in 4 or 6 crowded rows well onto midlobe. Column 8–11 × 4.5 mm, translucent green with reddish markings; basal glands c. 2 mm long, ovoid, yellow with red base.

Environment

Highly localised and rare; known from about four sites near Canberra, growing on slopes among shrubs, grasses and forbs in open forest dominated by snow gum and scribbly gum (Eucalyptus rossii) in freely draining, shallow, gravelly loam.
