Characteristics

Leaf lanceolate, 50–100 × 5–11 mm, densely hairy. Flower stem 100–200 mm tall, sturdy, densely hairy, 1-flowered. Flowers 30–40 mm across, pale yellowish green with red central stripes; sepals with thick flattened golden-yellow (rarely brownish) clubs 5–12 × 1.3 mm; petals lacking clubs. Dorsal sepal erect, 25–35 × 1.6–2mm, incurved or recurved. Lateral sepals porrect to obliquely deflexed, 25–35 × 3–4 mm, often crossed. Petals deflexed, 20–23 × 1.5–1.8 mm. Labellum delicately hinged, 14–16.5 × 13–14.5 mm, pale green with a dark maroon apex; basal margins with 2 or 3 pairs of thin, erect comb-teeth to 5 mm long; tip recurved; midlobe margins with 5–8 pairs of short, papillate teeth. Basal calli c. 2.5 mm long. Lamina calli to 2.5 mm long, dark maroon, thick, in 4 densely crowded rows onto base of maroon patch. Column incurved, 14–15 × 6–8 mm, transparent with pink to red flecks.

Environment

Scattered in small populations on, or close, to granite hills and domes; at the type locality growing in small, shallow gullies under wattles in freely draining, grey-brown sand with a surface litter layer; on Mt Granite growing among broom bush and mallee in accretions of gravelly loam between granite and porphyry rocks; also known from margins of salt lakes.
