Characteristics

Plants solitary or in tufts. Leaf linear, 30–90 × 3–7 mm. Flower stem 120–250 mm tall, 1-or 2-flowered. Flowers 40–80 mm across, bright white with red stripes, spots and blotches; sepals and petals with long, reddish black, filamentous tips. Dorsal sepal erect and incurved, 40–70 × 1–2 mm. Lateral sepals spreading near base then drooping, 40–70 × 2–3 mm. Petals similarly arranged, 40–60 × 2–3 mm. Labellum stiffly hinged, obscurely 3-lobed, 11–13 × 6–7 mm, white with red stripes, spots and blotches; margins entire or with a few short teeth; tip maroon, recurved. Calli slender, anvil-shaped, to 1 mm long, cream with red markings, arranged irregularly in 2 longitudinal rows, each row with 10–12 pairs of calli.
