Plants often in dense tufts. Leaf 150–200 × 2–5 mm. Flower stem 200–450 mm tall, 1–4-flowered. Flowers 100–120 mm across, rich red or yellow with pink to red markings and large, boldly marked labellum; sepals and petals with long, filamentous tips. Dorsal sepals erect, 75–140 × 3–5 mm. Lateral sepals drooping to pendulous, 75–140 × 3–6 mm. Petals similarly arranged, 55–130 × 2–4 mm. Labellum 14–22 × 12–15 mm, white to creamy yellow with red radiating lines; margins with short, broad teeth; tip recurved. Calli anvil-shaped, cream with red markings, 7–18 pairs in 2 rows. Column 10–16 × 6–8 mm, cream to yellowish.
Widespread; commonly growing in Eucalypstus wandoo woodland and sheoak thickets, less commonly in coastal forest, always in freely draining soil.
