Characteristics

Leaf ovate-lanceolate, 50–90 × 15–20 mm, hairy. Flower stem 80–200 mm tall, wiry, hairy, 1-or 2-flowered. Flowers 30–35 mm across, yellowish green with red central stripes and suffusions, sometimes wholly reddish; sepals with thick, reddish, yellowish or brown clubs 3–5 × 1 mm. Dorsal sepal incurved, 15–25 × 2–2.5 mm. Lateral sepals spreading horizontally, 15–25 × 3–4 mm, divergent. Petals spreading horizontally, 15–20 × 2–2.5 mm. Labellum delicately hinged, 9–12 × 8–12 mm, nearly triangular, mostly maroon; margins with 3–5 pairs of blunt teeth c. 1 mm long and numerous shorter red teeth; tip recurved. Basal calli c. 3 mm long. Lamina calli to 1.5 mm long, red, strongly clubbed, very broad and irregularly shaped, in 6 crowded rows onto base of midlobe. Column 11–13 ×  5–5.5 mm, whitish with red flecks and markings; basal glands c. 3 mm long, shiny, yellow.

Environment

Localised and rare in coastal and near-coastal areas; growing among low shrubs in sparse woodland and in mallee/broom bush scrub in freely draining fertile red loam over limestone; also in sedge lands on sand and patches of forest on granite outcrops in fertile red-brown soils.
