Leaf small at flowering time, enlarging through winter, 50–70 × 12–15 mm, hairy, purple beneath. Flower stem 60–100 mm tall, 1-or 2-flowered. Flowers 20–40 mm across, cream to white with darker lines and deep purplish red labellum; sepals and petals with slightly thickened, flat, brownish clubs 8–16 mm long. Dorsal sepal erect, 15–30 × 1–1.5 mm. Lateral sepals stiffly decurved, tips often downcurved or curled inwards, 15–30 × 2–3 mm, divergent. Petals similarly arranged, 12–25 × 3–3.5 mm, sometimes with twisted tips. Labellum 8–10 × 5–6 mm; margins with few broad, irregular-shaped, blunt teeth to 1 mm long; tip decurved. Basal calli 4, c. 1.3 mm long, columnar. Lamina calli to 1.5 mm long, dark red, crowded in 6–10 ill-defined rows. Column 7–8 × 3 mm, transparent, heavily marked with red.
Widespread in scattered populations in inland areas; growing among accumulated litter in mallee communities, in York Gum woodland, and in dense Melaleuca thickets in freely draining sands and loams.
