Characteristics

Plants solitary or in crowded tufts. Leaf 50–150 × 2–4 mm. Flower stem 150–350 mm tall, 1-or 2-flowered. Flowers 60–80 mm across, usually shiny dark red all over except for labellum base, occasionally cream to yellow with red markings; sepals and petals with long, dark, filamentous tips. Dorsal sepal erect, 55–65 × 2–3 mm. Lateral sepals obliquely and stiffly decurved, 55–65 × 2–3 mm. Petals similarly arranged, 40–50 × 1.5–2 mm. Labellum 7–10 × 4–6 mm, base pale, the rest red, some white stripes; margins with short, forward-pointing teeth; tip recurved. Calli anvil-shaped, red with cream marks, 8–12 pairs in 2 rows. Column 7–9 × 2.5–3 mm, red.
