Caladenia meridionalis Hopper & A.P.Br.

Leaf broad, 100–130 × 4–12 mm. Flower stem 150–300 mm tall, 1-or 2-flowered. Flowers 60–100 mm across, sweetly scented, cream with dark red markings; sepals and petals with long, dark red-brown, filamentous tips. Dorsal sepal erect, 55–80 × 2–3 mm. Lateral sepals obliquely decurved then hanging, 55–80 × 2–4 mm. Petals obliquely erect to horizontal then decurved, 50–70 × 2–3 mm. Labellum 12–17 × 6–10 mm, cream with red radiating lines breaking up into spots and blotches; margins with short, blunt or pointed teeth; tip recurved. Calli anvil-shaped, creamy yellow with pink markings, 6–12 pairs in 2 rows. Column 8–10 × 4–6 mm, creamy yellow with red markings.

Highly localised and rare; growing in low coastal heath and scrub on stabilised dunes in deep freely draining sand.
