Leaf linear-lanceolate, 80–120 × 8–12 mm, hairy. Flower stem 100–250 mm tall, slender, hairy, 1-flowered. Flowers 40–60 mm across, emit a scent resembling burnt plastic, greenish cream to cream or yellowish, sometimes with reddish markings; sepals with long, dark red or brownish clubs 8–15 mm long; petals usually lacking clubs (sometimes with small clubs or a cluster of glands). Dorsal sepal incurved, 30–40 × 2–3 mm. Lateral sepals obliquely decurved, 30–40 × 3–3.5 mm, widely divergent. Petals similarly arranged, 25–33 × 2.5–3 mm. Labellum 10–12 × 7–9 mm, mostly maroon, base paler; margins with 10–12 pairs of red teeth to 1.5 mm long; tip decurved. Calli to 1.3 mm long, red, uncrowded, in 4 or 6 rows not reaching bend in labellum. Column 10–11 × 4.5 mm, transparent with reddish suffusions.
Restricted to higher foothills, ranges and subalpine regions; growing among shrubs on slopes and ridges in freely draining, gravelly loam and well-structured, red-brown loam.
