Leaf 50–80 × 5–8 mm. Flower stem 100–300 mm tall, 1-or 2-flowered. Flowers 40–50 mm across, wholly red or deep maroon with yellowish suffusions near centre, rarely yellow; sepals with short, moderately thick, dark red clubs 3–5 × 0.8 mm; petals lacking clubs. Dorsal sepal recurved near base then erect, 20–25 × 1.5 mm. Lateral sepals projecting forwards in basal half then erect, 30–35 × 3 mm, very widely divergent. Petals upswept, 20–25 × 2.5 mm. Labellum delicately hinged, ovate, 9–11 × 6–7 mm, wholly red or partly yellow, with dark red veins; margins entire; tip recurved. Basal calli 4, c. 1 mm long, erect. Lamina calli to 0.5 mm long, red or yellow, widely spaced, in 4 short rows extending about halfway along labellum lamina. Column 8–9 × 4.5–5 mm, transparent heavily marked with red; basal glands c. 1.8 mm long, club-shaped, yellow with a red stalk.
