Plants often in tufts. Leaf 70–120 × 3–4 mm. Flower stem 200–300 mm long, 1-or 2-flowered. Flowers 80–120 mm across, with a strong burnt metal odour, white, yellow or dark red with maroon suffusions and markings; sepals and petals with long, filamentous tips. Dorsal sepal erect, 45–100 × 2–3 mm. Lateral sepals obliquely and stiffly decurved, 45–100 × 3–4 mm. Petals obliquely erect to horizontal or decurved, 45–90 × 2–3 mm. Labellum 10–17 × 10–13 mm, cream to yellow with red radiating lines, breaking up into spots and blotches; margins with short, blunt teeth; tip recurved. Calli anvil-shaped, cream, 6–14 pairs in 2 rows. Column 10–12 × 4–6 mm, yellowish with red markings.
