Leaf 70–120 × 5–10 mm, covered with very long, silky hairs. Flower stem 100–300 mm tall, covered with long, silky hairs, 1-flowered. Flowers 35–50 mm across, cream with red suffusions and lines, sometimes nearly wholly red; sepals with dark red clubs 5–8 mm long. Dorsal sepal erect, 30–40 × 3–4 mm. Lateral sepals divergent, 30–40 × 4–5 mm, spreading to slightly decurved. Petals arranged similarly, 25–35 × 3 mm. Labellum 8–10.5 × 6.5–7.5 mm, red with a pale base, often with prominent dark red veins; margins with numerous thick, red teeth to 1.3 mm long; tip recurved. Calli to 1.3 mm long, red, in 4 or 6 crowded rows. Column 10–11 × 4.5–5 mm, heavily marked with red.
Once locally common in high rainfall districts, now generally uncommon; growing among shrubs in open forest and heathy forest in freely draining, shallow, gravelly and sandy soils.
